Local Markets

Queensland’s ICT industry is powering ahead with excellent research institutions and a highly skilled workforce.

Add to this a supportive State Government, competitive taxes, low business costs and excellent communications and transport infrastructure and you have a dynamic business environment.

This mix has attracted world-leading ICT companies like Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Compaq and Hewlett Packard and produced home-grown success stories like Mincom, CaraData, Markinson, Webraven and Webcentral.

Queensland’s research effort has made it a leader in distributed systems, microelectronics, manufacturing technology, wireless applications and multimedia. It is a recognised leader in niche business applications such as building, mining and mapping. And it is an acknowledged world leader in e-Security, e-Learning, Electronic Games, Multimedia Wireless, and .Net.

Annual sales for local ICT companies amount to over $21 billion. There are more than 4300 employing ICT businesses in Queensland and 62,000 Queenslanders are employed in the industry.
