That's why the Queensland Government has established a four year strategy for the industry called Smart ICT - taking it to the world. This strategy is designed to help grow and further the local ICT industry and create more skilled jobs for Queensland.
The industry itself is characterised by the development of high-tech niche industries such as e-Security, and the widespread use of ICT across the State’s traditional industries such as mining.
Queensland boasts significant strengths and capabilities across a range of innovative industries. Collaboration by Government together with strong industry networks and associations ensure Queensland’s ICT industry continues to enjoy strong growth.
Queensland’s ICT industry is underpinned by a pro-business government, a skilled and enthusiastic workforce, and a world-class telecommunications system.
The sector earned total revenues of more than $A21.1 billion in 2003-04 which included $A878 million in export earning. There were approximately 4,360 ICT firms in the state, employing over 62,000 people.
