The Queensland Government’s Information Industries Bureau (IIB), has identified a range of ICT industry strengths and capabilities provided by Queensland-based organisations.

Their wealth of experience, leading business solutions and niche technologies have helped to establish Queensland as a centre of excellence in the Asia Pacific region and opened up export opportunities in major international markets.

Working in partnership with industry, the IIB delivers programs and initiatives that facilitate the development and growth of small to medium-sized ICT companies and the Queensland ICT industry as a whole.
Since the Government’s four year Smart ICT – Taking it to the world strategy was launched in December 2004, there has been strong growth in sales, employment and exports.
Latest research from the Queensland ICT Industry Survey 2005–06 shows ICT employment levels have grown 24 per cent to 77,300, while the number of firms employing ICT staff has increased 29 per cent to 5,600.
Economic figures show that the overall size of the Queensland ICT industry has grown 12 per cent to $23.6 billion. The most outstanding result has been the 48 per cent increase in international exports to $1.3 billion.
The successful implementation of the actions listed under the strategy demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the growth of the ICT industry.
