ICT Strategy - taking Smart State Information and Communication
Technology to the world
Queensland’s ICT industry is poised to grow substantially over the coming years. Future growth will come through:
- more determined exploitation of the industry’s IP base
- increasing the size and scale of Queensland firms to make them competitive in international markets
- more aggressive promotion of Queensland's capabilities in international markets;
- further penetration of specialised markets where Queensland has strong competitive strengths
- seizing opportunities for large corporations and local companies to partner in
Research and Development (R&D) and in channelling products and services to market.
Released in December 2004 by Premier Peter Beattie, the Queensland Government’s $18.5 million, four year Smart ICT:
Taking
IT to the world (PDF 525 Kb) is working to foster business growth, encourage commercialisation, establish and sustain competitive advantage, and increase exports.
Smart ICT is a key element of the State Government’s Smart State strategies, which aim to create a knowledge-based economy for Queensland.
Programs include:
- the Building
Productivity Program (the ICT Factor) is promoting the greater use of Queensland ICT products by established industry sectors, resulting in additional growth in the ICT industry and wider productivity gains in the economy
- the Partnership
Skills Program is helping to develop partnership skills among local firms for mutual benefit
- the Corporate
Engagement Program is facilitating partnerships between large corporations and small to medium scale enterprises
